  • Garden

SO, I'm wanting to start a vegetable garden in the back yard.  I've never done anything like this before...  Trying to learn alot right now & figure out what I can do with the money I have (or don't have, depending on how you look at it!).  :)  It will probably flop, or never come to fruition at all (looks more like the latter will happen), but I still want to try!

I've come across several good websites, including this one.  This has helped me a little more than others because of all the details she provides... in an organized way, which helps me understand it better, or at least catalog it in my mind better.

I'd love some coaching from some of my local friends!!

  • “God hath adopted us, not as natural men, for this or that respect, to an earthly inheritance, but God freely adopts us to an heavenly inheritance that fadeth not; neither doth God adopt us as men do men for the solacing of childlessness, for God hath a Son in whom he is pleased; neither again can men’s adoption make their adopted sons to be good; but when God adopts us, he makes us as he would have us to be, like himself. Other adopted sons, many of them are not sharers together of the inheritance; but we are made heirs and fellow-heirs with Christ himself.”

  • Thinking about the future & not feeling like I can do it...  on a number of fronts, really.  The possibility of being a pastor's wife, the idea of trying to complete another adoption (including securing the funds to do so), being a mommy to more than one child...  And other things, too.  Feels overwhelming.

Two things pop into my head:

    1)  I obviously DON'T have the resources to face what these things are going to take.  God does.  Therefore, trust Him.

    2)  Two passages:
(And this is really just a restatement of #1...)
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." --Mat. 6:34
(Really, all of 6:25-34 is comforting, but too long to post here.)

And one other passage:  "do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (from Phil. 4)

So, really the answer is found in faith in future grace.  God will give me the grace to face tomorrow's challenges tomorrow.  He has all the resources (physically, mentally, emotionally, financially) that I do not have!  God has always been good to me & provided for me, and I can trust Him to do & be the same as I look into the future.  ...Which reminds me of another verse:  "She laughs at the time to come," from Prov. 31.

So, as I wait to fall asleep tonight, I'll try to cast my burdens on the Lord, because He cares for me!  And trust Him to supply all my needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.  Maybe you can pray along with me, or maybe even for me!  I have much to be thankful for, and even more reason to have great confidence in my God for the future.  In the moment, it feels daunting.  But I have an even bigger God.

  • China?

(I'm just passing this along... feel free to do the same!  Heard it from a reputable adoptive family...)

"I just found this out. . .if you are interested, please contact amyrhood@comcast.net. A 13 year old girl in China just lost both of her parents. She is now in an orphanage. Unfortunately, China only allows children to stay in the orphanage until they are 14 and this girl will be 14 the day before Valentine's day. Please pass this along and prayerfully we can find her a home! Thanks!"

Two ways to live: The choice we all face

Of First Importance (Gospel Quote of the Day)

- The more free, the more sanctifying - “Thus it is, that the freeer the gospel, the more sanctifying the gospel; and the more it is received as a doctrine of grace, the more will it be felt as a doctrine according to godliness. It is only when, as in the gospel, acceptance is bestowed as a present, without money and without price, that the security which man feels in God is placed beyond the reach of disturbance…” - Thomas Chalmers, “The Expulsive Power of a New Affection”

About Me

  • I am a Christian, a wife to the most wonderful man in the world, & a soon-to-be mom (Lord-willing). We're in the process of adopting a baby from Ethiopia. I have just accepted a teaching position for elementary music at our local Christian school, and I also teach private piano lessons. I enjoy teaching Sunday school to 2-3 year-olds and running the book table at our church. And speaking of our church, we love it & are so thankful to be a part of the group at Heritage.
